Meet our Team - Rik Grant, Account Manager in London

Rik joined the Asian Absolute team in January 2007. Originally working as a project coordinator, he's now one of our leading Account Managers. His primary focus is ensuring his clients receive the services and expertise they require to achieve their objectives. As well as the consultancy and project management that this involves, Rik is also tasked with spearheading new business ventures in emerging sectors.

Having worked with his client to agree deliverables and timescales, Rik's role at the project level is to oversee all aspects of the production work, ensuring that internal and external resources follow client specifications. He works with project team members to iron out queries and any technical issues that may arise. Over the past three years, he has worked with many of our key accounts with a particular focus on the financial sector, including Bank of China, Mercer, Credit Suisse, Northern Trust and many others.

As he's fluent in Japanese, Rik also serves as an editor when the need arises – typically late on a Friday. One of the final arbiters as to what passes muster for our clients, he enjoys engaging his Japanese ability to ensure that our translators are always delivering top-notch work.

Rik studied Japanese at the University of Central Lancashire, and spent a year in Nagoya Japan, studying at Nagoya University of Foreign Studies. Since graduating in 2006, he has eagerly thrown himself into the world of translation, mastering various DTP applications and supplementing this knowledge with increased awareness of client needs and expectations.

Rik is also co-author of the article 'Gender Differences in Japanese' (777 kB PDF) for Multilingual, the leading industry magazine for website globalization, international software development and language technology.

In his spare time, Rik is an amateur photographer, and enjoys early 20th Century Japanese literature. He is particularly passionate about the works of Tanizaki Junichiro, whose work "The Tattooer" he is currently translating. He is also producing a series of photographs to accompany the translation.
